All Natural Pesticides..... Don't you want to know exactly what you are eating? Using store bought products you never know exactly what you get. Here are some all natural home remedies for your garden to keep the bugs away.

~~Plant Marigolds around your garden
~~plant radishes around your squash plants ( Radishes mature every 20 days just keep re planting)
~~Lady bugs keep the bad bugs away ( you can actually buy these at the store...but they don't guarantee they will stay in your garden...REALLY!) :-)
~~Plant Onions and Garlic around the border of your garden

By keeping your garden clean you will also help keep the bugs away.

**All purpose clean-up tonic (by Jerry Baker)
~~1 cup antiseptic mouthwash
~~1 cup dish soap (DO NOT use antibacterial)
~~1 cup chewing tobacco juice (for this use only the real leaf tobacco found at smoke shops it does not have any other additives, use one thumb and three fingers full of the leaves and add it to about about a cup an a half of water bring to a low boil for a few minutes and then simmer until your water is nice and dark, cool, strain, throw away the tobacco leaves and use 1 cup of the water)
*put these ingredients in a hose sprayer and spray over garden every 2 weeks. Do this AFTER 7 pm

**Disease & Fungus Control Tonic (from Lori Nunley)
~~2 tablespoons Vinegar
~~1 quart water
*put these in a hose sprayer and spray over plants, this is especially good for tomatos

**One Whiff
~~1 small onion chopped finely
~~1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
~~1 tablespoon liquid dish soap (no anti bacterial)
*Mix in 1 quart warm water, sift through cheese cloth until you could spray it through a pump sprayer. Let mixture sit over night and then mist with spray bottle.

**Feeding Tonic
~~1 can beer (no light)
~~1 cup ammonia
~~1/2 cup dish soap (no antibacterial)
~~1/2 cup clear corn syrup
~~1/2 cup liquid plant food
*feed plants every 3 weeks before noon

For other serious problems you might need to use a pesticide. If it is a liquid, do not use at full strength and only use on the affected plant.

*it is recommended that you use pyrethrin
and dilute the 1st time 25% solution and go up to 50% solution
I couldn't find a lot of information on this but Jerry Baker is the one the recommends it and at the end of this post is his web site.

Q: My yard is swarming with mosquitoes. How can I get rid of them so I can enjoy my backyard again?

A. Remember that any standing water in your yard or garden can turn into a mosquito breeding ground, so get rid of any puddles around your yard. Then, over spray your yard with my Buzz Buster Lemonade: 1 cup of lemon-scented ammonia and 1 cup of lemon-scented dish washing liquid in a 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, filling the balance of the sprayer jar with warm water. Repeat this treatment 3 times a week in the evening, and the little buggers will be history..

Q: Help! I can't grow anything because of my hard, clay soil. How do I get a great lawn?

A: You need to condition the soil before you do anything else. So, apply gypsum at the recommended rate twice a year until things get going. Also, overspraying the area regularly with 1 cup of dishwashing liquid in your 20 gallon hose-end sprayer will do wonders for softening the soil.

Q: I pull weeds till I'm blue in the face, and they always come back. How can I eliminate them?

A: The most basic requirement for weed control is proper lawn maintenance. Thick grass actually crowds out weeds! So make sure that you're mowing your lawn properly, and that there is good soil and adequate fertilization. If you're still having problems, then you've got to haul out the heavy artillery - chemical controls. Be sure to always purchase weed killers that are labeled specifically for the type of lawn that you have. For best control, shampoo your lawn first with 1 cup of dishwashing liquid in your 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, and then apply the control at the recommended rate. Next year, before weeds pop-up, apply my Preemergent Weed Control Tonic: 1 cup of dishwashing liquid, 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and 2 tbsp. of instant tea granules in a 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, filling the balance of the sprayer jar with water. Then follow up with a commercial preemergent type control to help prevent weed seeds from sprouting.

Q: Mushrooms are popping up all over my lawn. How do I kill them?

A: To eliminate the mushrooms, first walk all over the area with your Aerating Lawn Sandals to poke a lot of holes in the turf. Then overspray the area with 1 cup of dishwashing liquid in your 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, and give the mushrooms a light dusting with dry laundry soap. That should do it.

There is just so much information on his web site.... take a look.

Happy Mothers Day to All,

I have added a few more links. I also wanted to add a few notes.
I added the link to the ldscatalog.com where you can buy church supplies and have them sent to you. Cool! I did not know you could do this. The one thing I did find with the food storage is that it is a little more expensive. But if you can not get to the cannery what a great service it is to have it shipped right to your front door. Sweet!

The first thing you will need to do is create a user name and pass word. Super simple.
Then pick the items you want and put them in your "shopping cart". When you are ready to check out click "Proceed to check out"
You will pay sales tax for your state.
You do not have to pay shipping that is already figured into the prices online.
Then enter your credit card information and click in the lower right hand corner "Purchase"
Voila, you are done. it is shipped to your door.

A few things to mention.... If you have the ability to go to the cannery, I highly recommend it. It is a lot cheaper. For instance,
6 #10 cans of Hard Red Wheat Online $30.50
6 # 10 cans of Hard Red Wheat at the Store House $19.50
The Starter Kit Online $34.75
The Starter Kit at the Store House $25.00

This is a wonderful service the church offers and I am so glad to know that they do. But I do love going to the cannery.

Easiest Whole Wheat Bread

Lemon Juice acts as a dough enhancer which givers this bread a fine, light texture. This freezes very well. I make it in my Kitchen Aid, Remember this bread is sticky to the touch when it is ready to go into the pans.

Preheat oven to 170 degrees

2 Loaves (8X4) Loaves

3 ½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup gluten flour (sometimes I leave this out and add an extra splash of lemon juice)
1 tsp + ¾ tsp instant yeast
2 ½ cup steaming hot tap water
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
1/3 cup sugar or honey (Splenda)
1 ¼ tsp lemon juice
2 ½ whole wheat flour

You can also add:
½ cup flax seed
3-4 tbs Lecithin

In mixer bowl, mix yeast and steaming hot water
Add gluten and flour 1 cup at a time. Mix for 1 minute.
Let mixture stand for 10 minutes to rise

While waiting, measure honey or sugar and salt into small bowl, and the oil and lemon juice in another small bowl. These will be ready as soon as the 10 minutes are over.

After the dough has risen, add the honey and the sugar mixtures to the flour and mix for 1 minute.
Add the remaining flour. Remember that the dough will be tacky to the touch to turn out right.

Spray pans, prep surfaces and hands with cooking spray (it’s sticky!). Pull dough onto board and shape into even sized loaves. I actually double this recipe and make whole-wheat cinnamon rolls. Yummmm!

Put loaves in the oven (170 degrees) for 15 minutes to rise. After 15 minutes, reset the oven to 350 degrees and bake for another 30 minutes. So easy and so delicious. Enjoy!
